1. Scope and Application

This policy applies when minors (anyone under 18) participate in Apart Research programs primarily designed for adults, including:

• Research fellowships that accept exceptional high school students
• AI safety sprints where some participants may be 16-17
• Virtual programs and workshops with minor participants
• Conferences where minors attend as participants or volunteers

2. Legal and Safety Requirements

2.1 Legal Compliance

• Assess and comply with all legal requirements in relevant jurisdictions
• Verify labor laws for minor interns (Netherlands, EU, participant locations)
• Determine mandatory reporting obligations for all staff
• Obtain appropriate insurance (liability and abuse cover) after legal consultation

2.2 Parental Consent

Required for all minors:

• Written parental permission before program participation
• Clear program description including mentorship structure
• Explanation of supervision and safeguarding measures
