1. Scope and Application
This policy applies when minors (anyone under 18) participate in Apart Research programs primarily designed for adults, including:
- Research fellowships that accept exceptional high school students
- AI safety sprints where some participants may be 16-17
- Virtual programs and workshops with minor participants
- Conferences where minors attend as participants or volunteers
2. Legal and Safety Requirements
2.1 Legal Compliance
- Assess and comply with all legal requirements in relevant jurisdictions
- Verify labor laws for minor interns (Netherlands, EU, participant locations)
- Determine mandatory reporting obligations for all staff
- Obtain appropriate insurance (liability and abuse cover) after legal consultation
2.2 Parental Consent
Required for all minors:
- Written parental permission before program participation
- Clear program description including mentorship structure
- Explanation of supervision and safeguarding measures
